Terry Wayne Cummings

Terry Wayne Cummings took his last ride on August 7th, 2026, at MD Anderson in Houston in the loving arms of family.   
Terry was born on February 13, 1949, to Bettye and Truman Cummings in Seagraves, Texas.
Terry graduated from Seagraves High School in 1967, where he excelled in academics and sports, receiving all district and all-state honors in football as a running back and kicker.  He was in the honor society, class president, and president of the Future Teachers Association. 
He loved the outdoors and all sports as a young boy, which continued throughout high school.   He was successful at anything he attempted, but was never boastful about it.   Terry was a very quiet, reserved and kind person who was always respected by his family, friends, teachers and coworkers. 
 Terry was in the Army and assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam.  After Vietnam, he came home and finished his degree at Texas Tech University, and re-enlisted as an officer in the Army. His service was exceptional and meritorious while serving as platoon leader and executive officer. His unrelenting loyalty, initiative and perseverance brought him wide acclaim and inspired others to strive for maximum achievement.   He contributed significantly to his unit, earning the following honors: the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.  
After several years serving his military service obligation, he began his career in the oil and gas industry for Dresser Atlas, later becoming Baker Hughes.   Terry worked diligently as a field engineer, a district manager, a petrophysicist and in sales throughout his 37-year career with Baker Hughes and Unocal, an oil and gas exploration company.   
He often shared his passion for the outdoors and riding motorcycles with his family by taking them camping and riding in the mountains of Big Bend and New Mexico, Sam Houston National Forest and the Hill Country of Texas.   He also loved hunting, hiking, reading and scuba diving.  
Continuing to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Cindy Greenway Cummings, beloved children Scott Cummings of Timberon, NM, Jay Cummings (Birgit) of Seattle, WA, Sean Cummings (Karen) of Round Rock, TX, Gene Fortune of Cross Plains, TX, and Crystal Webb (Bill) of Burkett, TX,  his beloved grandchildren, Laura Beth Kooyers (Cody), Savannah Cummings, Sam Cummings (Novi), Maya Cummings, Teagan Cummings, Ian Cummings, Tyson Cummings, Addie Rhyne (James), Heidi Webb, his God children, Grace and Kostas Tanner and chosen grandchildren, Maddie and Andrew Stover, great grandchildren, Cheyenne Kooyers, Logan Kooyers, Hadden Rhyne, and Casen Stover. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; Bettye and Truman Cummings, brother, Jerry Cummings, sister Sherri Gaudin, parents in love, Charles and Frances Greenway and grandson, Trenton Fortune.
He certainly had the 2 Timothy 4:7 kind of faith, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith”. 
Visitation will be at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, 141 East 3rd Street, Baird, Texas 79504 on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.  
Services will be at the Baird Methodist Church, 1600 US-283, in Baird, Texas 79504 at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 15, 2026, with graveside to follow at Ross Cemetery in Baird.
