Jimmy Joe Medley

Jimmy Joe Medley, 89, of Clyde went home to Heaven on Monday, July 27, 2026, in an Abilene nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Clyde First Baptist Church with Pastor Travis Leamon officiating. A private burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. 
Jimmy was born May 28, 1937, in Brownwood to Milton and Nora (Blair) Medley. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1956, where he lettered two years in football. Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Ellie Joy Weems, on June 9, 1956, at Bethel Baptist Church. His first job was in Brownwood driving a route for Howard Bakery. They moved to Abilene in 1958 and he worked as a carpenter and building superintendent for Rose & Son, later becoming Rose Builders, for 18 years. They moved to Clyde in 1967 and joined the Clyde First Baptist Church. Jimmy was a subcontractor for the church’s auditorium, and we went to Saint Kitts on a building mission trip in 1975. He also did work at Eula Baptist Church. 
Some of Jimmy’s hobbies were camping, fishing, visiting with friends in Colorado, playing games of 42 and Joker. He also did crafts, making canes and walking sticks. He loved God, his family and the many friendships he cherished. 
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ellie Medley; four daughters, Linda Pearce and husband Randy of Cleburne, Peggy Hines and husband Gary of Clyde, Cheryl Cowan and husband Bill of Weatherford and Susan Williams and husband Jeff of Cleburne; grandchildren, Wayne and Tabatha Hines of San Angelo, David Hines of Austin, Brandi Burgess of Cleburne, Britni and Josh Greenwood of Burleson, Miranda and Billy Elliott, Jr. of Godley, twin brothers, Trey and Troy Williams of Fort Worth, Katelyn Cowan of Weatherford and Will Cowan of San Antonio; great grandchildren, Hudson Hines, Emma Wagner, Makya and Zander Burgess, Rhyden and Lyla Luera, Billy Wayne Elliott, III, Mason, Parker, Harley and Jolee Greenwood; other family, Martha Medley Benson and Joe Medley, both of Brownwood, Tim Burris of Bangs, Pat Medley, Vicki Burris Ehlers of Lubbock and James Medley. 
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Nora; brother, Bob Medley and grandson, Staff Sgt. Bryan Burgess.
