Sonya Lynn Mitchell

Sonya Lynn Mitchell, 52, passed away in Graham, Texas on June 13, 2026. She was born on June 24, 1973, in Austin Texas, the daughter of Scott and Brenda Awalt Mitchell.
Sonya graduated from Baird High School, Class of 1991. Following her graduation, she worked at the Texas Department of Transportation, Vulcan Materials and then continued her career in material testings in the Dallas area.
During her high cchool years, you could find Sonya either working with her show calves or at the golf course. She had a passion for playing golf and her successful golf career was highlighted by numerous achievements, including winning the Class A State Championship in 1991. She also loved working with her show calves and proudly exhibited them at many stock shows. The countless hours she spent on the golf course and caring for her show animals created cherished memories.
Above all, Sonya treasured time with family and friends, adored her dog Roseanne, and always enjoyed a good fishing trip.
Survivors include her parents, Scott and Brenda Mitchell of Baird, partner Misty Ponder of Graham, sister Julie Rogers and husband Matt of Baird, brother Steven Mitchell and wife Angela of Baird and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. To 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home in Baird. Graveside service will follow at Ross Cemetery, Spencer Price Addition, in Baird at 10:30 a.m., with Lauren Garduño officiating.
