Ermanell Miller Penney

June 03, 2026

Ermanell Miller Penney, age 93, of Clyde, Texas, went to be with her Lord on May 28, 2026 after a brief illness.
Ermanell was born on April 10, 1933, in Abilene, Texas, to Erman and Esta (Dado) Miller. She attended schools in Eastland, McKinney and Coleman, graduating in 1950 as the high-ranking girl.
Ermanell met her love, Harvey Joe Penney, while in high school. After graduation from Howard Payne University, they were married on December 27, 1953, in Coleman, Texas.
For many years, Ermanell was a devoted, stay-at-home mother to Elise, Jessica Gay and Keith. When Keith started first grade she began her teaching career. She taught reading and first grade for 27 years at Clyde, retiring in 1998. Many children throughout those years learned to read and remember her for her love of books and by the big penny nametag that she wore.
Ermanell accepted Christ as her Savior in 1940 in a revival service at Eastland FBC. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clyde and a dedicated member of the Who So Ever Will Sunday School class. Ermanell was always concerned about the spiritual condition of friends and family members and urged them to follow Christ.
After retirement, Ermanell enjoyed quilting, traveling and being a part of the prayer ministry at FBC Clyde. She was also a member of the Clyde Women's Club and the Clyde Study Club. She loved volunteering at the Clyde City Library and spreading joy through reading.
Ermanell is survived by her children Elise (Kinney) Mitchell of Clyde, Jessica Gay (Kelly) Johnson of Baird, and Keith (Debbie) Penney of Plano.
Known as Mimi, she is survived by grandchildren: Natasha (Andrei) Stefanenkov, Bethany White, Kris (Allie) Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, Melanie (Aaron) Ashlock, Aubree Penney, Zilla (Kaedmon) Penney and Keaton Penney.
In addition, she is survived by great-grandchildren: Lyuba and Arkasha Stefanenkov; Emma and Aiden White; Dexter and Braxton Johnson, Blakely and Rylie Hetzel; Todd, Trystan and Azalea Johnson; Ashton, Noelle, Junie, Willa and Creed Ashlock and a great- great grandson, Bennett Dotson, son of Rylie Hetzel. She is also survived by three nieces, a nephew and many cousins who loved her.
Ermanell was preceded in death by her parents, Erman L. and Esta Miller, by her husband, Harvey Joe Penney, and her sisters, Nanallene Turner and Carolyn Murphy.
Many thanks to the kind and caring staff of BeeHive Assisted Living and to Gentiva Hospice who took such loving care of our Mimi.
