Smitty was an oil field mechanic by trade and owner of Bulldog Equipment in Clyde TX for over 40 years. Smitty grew up in Abilene where he graduated from Abilene High School in 1973. His coach told Ada several years ago that Smitty was the toughest football player he had ever coached. Friends say his tough exterior was overshadowed by his warm, caring heart. His most cherished achievement in life was his family, whom he valued with all his heart. Smitty was always known for telling his family members that he loved them.
He never met anyone he didn’t like and never spoke ill of anyone. Smitty respected people for who they were, no matter what. He had many close friends while growing up and they remained close until the end.  Smitty always wore a sweet smile on his face and was truly loved by all.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2026, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel of Clyde with Ray Vinson officiating.
