Gregory “Greg” Henry Gerngross

Gregory “Greg” Henry Gerngross left this life Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the age of 84.
Greg was born January 7,1942 in Ballinger to Rudolph and Elizabeth Schraer Gerngross. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University in 1966, and later earned his Master’s Degree from Tarleton State University in 1974. He and Dick Vestal drove to Stephenville on Wednesday Nights for seven years to receive this degree.
He worked as Assistant County Agent in Falls County from 1966 to 1969. In May 1969, he became County Agent in Callahan County, a position he held until his retirement on March 31,1997.  Although he had other job opportunities during this time but considered Callahan County and its people home. In his career, he received many distinguished awards, including the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from Baird FFA, the distinguished service award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, a 30 year service award from the United States Department of Agriculture, and appreciations awards from Callahan County 4-H.
Greg married Mary Jo Thompson June 1,1973, and the couple had two sons, Jody and Jason.  His favorite hobby was working and doing things with the boys, who were the light of his life. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved them all beyond words. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He was a member of Saints Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in Clyde.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Loretta Michalewicz, and brother Rudolph “Rudy” Gerngross, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of over 52 years, Mary Jo Gerngross; sons Jody Gerngross and wife Wendy, and Jason Gerngross and wife Samantha; six grandchildren, Jake, Jinger Jo, Jayce, Louis, Levi and Jack; and sisters Natalie Lange and Mary Lou Gerngross.
Services were held Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St’s. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in Clyde. Burial was at Belle Plaine Cemetery.
