Jerry Lewis Nance, 88, of Trent, formerly of Clyde, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025, in an Abilene hospice facility. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, at Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Jerry was born on November 12, 1937, in Walker Town, Kentucky to Abraham and Thadene (Lewis) Gay. After his mom remarried, he was adopted by his stepfather, James Calvin Nance. He was a 1956 graduate of Clyde High School and married Mary Helen McGinnis in Abilene on June 5, 1956. Jerry started working in the oilfield in the late 1950’s and worked for Champlin Petroleum for over 30 years, retiring as an oilfield supervisor. He was a member of the Trent United Methodist Church. Jerry was a talented artist and loved to draw. He loved taking care of his cats and spending time with his family for the holidays or just any family get to together.
He is survived by two sons, Kenny Nance and wife Connie of Lamesa and John Nance and wife Cassandra of Trent; one daughter, Mary Martha (Stormy) King and husband David of Lumberton; three brothers, Paul Michael Nance and wife Mary Lee of Peaster, Richard Allen Nance and wife Cindy of Austin and David Gay of Kentucky; one sister, Bobbie Jo Gay of Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Cole Nance, Nigel Nance, Dereck King, Nikki Igarta, Christopher Cribb, Jeffrey Cribb and Cody Cox; six great grandchildren, Maverick King, Rylee King, Matthew Cribb, Isabella Cribb, Jade Igarta and Lainey Igarta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his son, Jerry Michael Nance; his brothers, James William Nance and Abe Gay, Jr. and two sisters, Peggy Nance Shoemake and Ann Nance Meyer.
