Beckye Griggs Dugan

December 04, 2025

Beckye Griggs Dugan of Clyde passed away peacefully Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the age of 98. She was the last surviving child of Dr. R.L. and Cookie Work Griggs.
Beckye graduated from Baird High School in 1945 and Hardin Simmons University in 1949.  She loved being an HSU Cowgirl, and was recently recognized for the 75th anniversary of her graduation.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan she cheered them on, win or lose, and knew all the players by heart.
Beckye worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Watkins in Ranger, performing bookkeeping as well as other duties. She served as the Democratic Chairperson for Callahan County in the 1960s. She was very proud to attend the convention for President John F. Kennedy and Jackie. One of 12 women from Texas attending was Ann Richards, who was later Governor of Texas. Beckye always shared this story and was proud to represent her county.
In her later years, she was a farmer and rancher raising Brahman cattle. Beckye was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald Edward Dugan, Sr., siblings, and her beloved son, Jerry Dugan. She is survived by her nieces and nephews who loved and adored her.
Private family graveside services were held at Ross Cemetery in Baird.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Wisteria Place Staff and Alpha Omega Hospice for their dedication and devotion to Beckye in her final days.
